Unplugged?

Everything is becoming far too complicated these days. You can't just walk in the store and buy something. You get asked far too many questions.

It's even hard to purchase a simple box of donuts without the questions.

I walked into the Dunkin Donuts near work to pick up a dozen for the office.

"Can I help you?"

"Sure, I'd like a dozen donuts."

"Are these for male or female?"

"Huh?"

"Are these donuts for the guys or for the gals?"

"Are you serious? Can it really matter?"

"Well, if you get pink toppings with sprinkles for the guys, you'll have a riot."

I really couldn't believe what I was hearing. I looked around the donut shop to see if anyone else thought this a ludicrous discussion over a box of donuts. But they all looked at me as if this was perfectly logical and I was the one clueless.

"Okay then; make it mixed."

Am I in a dream?

Or is this woman completely unplugged?

Las Vegas page

Las Vegas page

This page reminds me of Las Vegas, all the signs going every which way. I woke up ill and so stayed in bed writing nonsense.

It really wasn't drawing in the truest sense of the word, but it was still journaling fun for sure.

And that's what a personal journal is all about, drawing, writing, painting, whatever. It's very therapeutic.

I bought some professional watercolors for sketching but haven't opened them yet. I'm still using travel my student set. I tried to paint a tree and it feels like I'm learning how to draw all over again. I need to take some classes. I haven't a clue.

Whenever I get some free time, away from my real job, I'll jump in with the first lesson in the DIY book I've got. It looks simple enough.

I wander if Michelangelo has this kind of trouble. You know, not knowing how to draw. It's seems too fantastic to be so. I just think he was born with a brush in his hand.

Oh, I finally dumped my coins into a coin machine. Six and a half pounds of nickles and dimes yielded $83.17.

drawing draped fabric

drawing draped fabric

A little experiment in drawing draped fabric.

As I was looking around for something to sketch I looked down at the sketchbook in my lap. The light overhead created a sheen on the pant legs. Rather than getting up in search of something to draw, I just drew the pants.

As I mapped the pant leg on the right I wandered off into a fabric ravine and got disoriented. I forgot consult my compass, that is, the subject of my sketch. As a result, one pant leg is wider than the other. Which certainly doesn't reflect the actual anatomy of my legs.

(I later found a good site on drawing all kinds of drapery here.)
